Metal Building Types · Canyon Lake, TX

Metal shops, garages, barndominiums, carports & more.

We build all the common types of metal buildings across Central Texas and the Hill Country. Here's what each one is, who it's for, and what to expect from the build. If you don't see your project type here, call us anyway — if it's steel and it has to hold, we've probably built one.

Black metal shop with roll-up door, Canyon Lake TX

Type 01

Metal shops & workshops

A metal shop is the most common build we do — and for good reason. Red-iron framing holds a large clear-span space without interior columns, giving you full floor-to-ceiling use of every square foot. Common sizes run 30×40 to 60×120 and beyond.

Typical features: 14-foot roll-up doors, walk doors, ridge vent, gutters, and framed openings for windows or future additions. We design it around what you actually park, store, or work on inside.

Common sizes
24×30, 30×40, 40×60, 50×100, 60×120
Best for
Home workshops, farm equipment storage, mechanic shops, light commercial
Shell cost range
$25–$55 per sq ft depending on size and options

3-bay metal garage with concrete driveway, Central Texas

Type 02

Metal garages

A metal garage is a step up from a carport in terms of enclosed protection — and it lasts decades longer than wood-framed construction in the Texas heat and humidity. Single-bay, 2-bay, 3-bay, and beyond. We build them with standard overhead doors or roll-up bay doors depending on what you're parking inside.

We've built garages for daily drivers, diesel trucks, tractors, travel trailers, and project cars. The design changes based on door height, clearance, and whether you want interior finish work like insulation or concrete floors.

Common sizes
20×20 single, 24×30 two-car, 30×40 three-bay, and custom
Best for
Vehicles, boats, RVs, equipment, and combined garage/shop setups
Shell cost range
$20,000–$65,000+ depending on size and options

Type 03

Barndominiums & barndo shells

A barndominium is a steel-framed structure built to residential or mixed-use specs — part shop or barn, part living space. The shell is structural steel and metal panels; the interior is finished out to whatever standard you choose. They're popular in the Hill Country because the builds are faster, more durable against Texas weather, and often more cost-efficient per square foot than stick-frame homes.

LR builds the shell and handles the structural steel side. You choose the floor plan and handle interior finish. We'll coordinate the engineered drawings to make sure framed openings, roof loads, and anchor bolt locations match your interior layout.

Common configs
Shop + living combo, full barndo, loft-style, slab-on-grade
Best for
Primary residence, vacation property, farm & ranch homestead
Shell cost range
$35–$65+ per sq ft for the steel shell depending on size and finish

Type 04

Carports & covered parking

A steel carport is one of the fastest ways to get covered parking without the cost and permitting of a full enclosed building. We build open-side steel carports, partially enclosed units, and attached carports that tie into an existing structure.

In Central Texas the sun is the enemy — a well-built steel carport extends the life of your vehicles and equipment and adds visible value to any property. We build them to hold up against Texas wind loads and the occasional hail storm.

Common sizes
12×20 single, 20×30 double, 30×40 multi-vehicle
Best for
Vehicles, boats, trailers, RVs, and equipment protection

Metal covered structure, Canyon Lake TX

Type 05

RV covers & tall-clearance structures

RVs need clearance — typically 14 to 18 feet of interior height depending on the coach. A purpose-built steel RV cover protects a $100,000+ investment from UV damage, hail, and roof deterioration. We size the opening and eave height to fit your specific rig, not a standard kit.

Some customers want an RV cover that doubles as a covered equipment bay or tall garage. We build those too — just tell us the height of the tallest thing you're parking inside.

Common sizes
14–18 ft eave height, 14–16 ft wide bays, 40–60 ft long
Best for
Class A/B/C motorhomes, fifth wheels, toy haulers, tall trailers

Brown metal barn with awning, Central Texas

Type 06

Equipment barns & hay storage

Farm and ranch equipment needs protection from Texas weather more than almost anything else. A well-built metal equipment barn keeps your tractors, implements, hay, and supplies out of the sun and rain — and steel framing holds up to decades of use without the rot or pest problems that plague wood-framed structures.

We build open-ended hay barns, enclosed equipment barns, and combination structures with separate bays for equipment and hay storage. We're also comfortable working on active ranch properties — we know to keep gates closed and stay out of your way.

Common sizes
40×60 to 60×200+ for large operations
Best for
Tractors, hay, livestock equipment, ag chemical storage
